Maui, the tranquil "aloha state". A destination most West coasters have on their "to-go-to" list. I chose to venture outside of the norm and camp Maui. Yes, camp. However, it wasn't your average tent camping experience. I spent 10 days (my whole duration) camping out using a roof top tent. I (happily) went through a company called Camp Maui X, best decision - and the owner Sean, is awesome! Having a hotel on wheels, it gave ample opportunity to explore all sides of the island without time constraint. I spent majority of my time at Oluwalu campsite - I highly recommend their "Mountain View tentalows" as well if you decide not to camp - pictured below - their facilities are new & clean - however their beach is tiny & not too appealing), Papalaua Wayside Park - pictured above. (You're camping ON the beach, in the sand & despite any negative reviews, I adored this spot. Nothing quite like waking up to fresh brewed coffee with your toes in the sand or rolling over in the middle of the night and seeing the moon glisten on the crashing waves - highly recommendable - but quite packed during the day), YMCA Camp Keanae - w/ a gorgeous view & hospitable staff you can't go wrong.. plus it's your half way point along Road to Hana, & Waianapanapa State Park (pronounced: why-ah-nawpah-nawpa .. I loved this spot, however you must book ahead of time online! It's hidden off the Road to Hana, has hiking trails, a black sand beach & a BEAUTIFUL fresh water cave you can take a dip in).
