Sacramento, aka Sac-town, town of history & CA's capitol. With a last minute change in plans I decided to head up to Sacramento - my halfway point from SF to Reno, NV. Scrambling through Groupon & Yelp the evening before my trip found this gem - The Citizen's Hotel (a Marriott). Placed blocks away from an array of museums, parks, the Tower bridge, Old Sacramento & yummy restaurants .. it's the perfect location! Not to mention the building it's self was constructed in the 1800's - leaving you with a sense of luxury and an historical feel. Upon leaving my house, I decided my weekend getaway started then. I hopped in my Jeep, rolled down my windows, took a big breath of fresh air & cranked up the radio. In my hour & a half drive I watched passing vehicles packed with children passed out from pure exhaustion, men well over mid age cruising in what appeared to be rented sports cars drive with the top down as they reminisced what their 20's felt like, & people sitting in traffic who were milliseconds away from loosing their sanity. Finally I arrived, after driving in what seemed like a never ending maze of a bajillion oneway streets.. I was greeted by the most handsome valet attendant who handled my parking & my luggage (this is when I knew it was going to be a good evening - little did I know what the rest of the evening had in store for me). I checked in at a very low rate of $90 (with a 45% law enforcement discount) & was escorted to my room on the 12th floor. Having read tons of Yelp reviews & analyzing online photos posted by other customers, I thought I knew what to expect - however, once I stepped into my room .. the photos had not served my view any justice. I overlooked the capitol building with a view of the adjoining brick building (which may I add, was built with extreme attention to detail). Moments later there was a knock at the door. With no clue who it might be I glanced through the peephole to find it was an employee. I open the door & she is armed with champagne. She places it on the bed & walks out, as I'm scratching my head wondering who ordered Champagne I open the card attached reading .. "Welcome Remy". That's it. Nothing else. Interesting but very nice (who's to complain). I unpack & head downstairs for further questioning. Front desk advises she has no idea who ordered it, she was simply following orders (for lack of a better word). Excepting I wasn't going to find out, I left the hotel to explore. Walking just a few blocks, I was in the heart of the Capitol building & historical museums.. I visited just about every free museum, Leland Stanford Museum being my favorite as it was a Victorian style mansion built in the early 1800's for 3 of California's Governors & as of today still serving as an office where state officials congregate. After exploring all I could in the 100 degree heat, I headed back to my room where I decided to order Salmon over quinoa for room service. I hopped in the shower, threw on my robe & waited while I admired my view. I heard a knock at the door.. I answered & it was the same attendant from earlier .. she placed my meal on the bed & as she was exiting I asked, "is there a bill I need to sign?" .. She said it was on the house, but appeared to be clueless. ("I'm thinking, again?! They must have me confused with someone else"). As I uncover the meal I realize there is a dessert I didn't order, but of course I enjoyed every last bite of it! So, what I didn't tell you is.. On my way up here I paid the toll fee for the vehicle behind me. Of course not thinking anything about it until now, while I'm being showered with free gifts from some mysterious person (just a side note). Any who, lets back on track... I enjoyed my meal & met a friend who lives in the area downstairs at the bar/restaurant .. We chatted until I couldn't chat anymore. I retired to my room, cracked the windows & drifted off to sleep. I peacefully awoke without an alarm & headed down for breakfast at The Grange where I now sit & type my nights adventure. As of now, I still have no clue as to who or why my meals have been comped, but let's hear your thoughts! Is it possible it's simply karma? Well, I'll keep you up to date, stay tuned as I head off to Reno, NV. Ciao - xoxo!
