I've traveled 2,826 miles and a total of 8 & 1/2 hours to immerse myself deep into the Nicaraguan culture for 13 days. Points of interest being Granada (easily my favorite), Leon (a roughed up photo copy of Granada), El Gigante (a VERY small beach town with a beautiful view - it's not big enough to be considered a town), San Juan Del Sur (party central, but amongst the younger generation of locals - it's their fav. and known for their Sunday Sunday Party) and lastly Madera (there's one beach - warm waters and cold dirt cheap beers). Granada as a wholesome experience cliche-ly stole my heart. I arrived into Managua (The only main airport hub for travel) at about 11pm. Managua NOT being a destination, I pushed and shoved my way through the crowds of 30+ Taxi drivers hustling us arrivers and made my way to my arranged ride. After an 1 & 1/2 drive to my first hotel and $40 later (US dollars - which is average for a CAR drive that distance) I checked into Tribal Hotel. This little (7 room) tranquil boutique hotel is centrally placed in town - yet it's quiter than a library, so very aesthetically pleasing, and staff waits on your every need while being a step ahead of you with a smile on their face (brush up on your Spanish if you'd like to converse more than hola or adios w/ them). A little side note - I am quite the germaphobe (which can make traveling a little rough), so don't fret .. all of my stays and recommendations are up-to-par. Any who, I rate The Tribal Hotel a 4 1/2 stars. IT'S A MUST. DO IT. I spend my short stay In Granada walking solo around the town (all of like a 10 square block radius), attempting to capture the beauty of the vibrant colors.. doors.. and locals who were working (harder than I've ever seen - in high heat), purchasing a few small items from the pop up tents in town square (items are very cheap but if you want a deal, they're always up for negotiation), taking a "tour" of the area by horse carrige - $10 for 30 min. but you can work them down to $8 since there's easily 10+ competitors out there hustling potential customers, enjoying local cuisine - any mom and pop restaurant is recommendable - but the platter I recommend is pescado (eating the entire fish off the bones) .. its cultural .. adventurous and oh so tasty!
