Second stop - Leon, Nicaragua - The roughed up photo copy of Granada. Known for their Volcano Boarding @ Cerra de Negro & the Leon Cathedral (you MUST take the $1 tour of the roof top!!) located in Parque Central. Do yourself the favor of visiting at least Granada OR Leon if not both. The night life in Leon was fun and cheap (pay no more than $2 to get into any club). We always felt safe & there's a bunch of places to eat (my favorite being this corner spot next to the Cathedral w/ outdoor seating). If your up for a cheap & clean place to stay, check out Big foot Hostel - It's located in the heart of everything, has a conjoined bar & restaurant - breakfast pictured above, they organize group volcano boarding ($30 per person) & if you're looking to hitch a ride out of Nicaragua they offer shuttles to the surrounding borders. Third Stop - Gigante, Nicaragua - The middle of no man's land. First off, don't make this a destination if you want to be on the go seeing & doing. This "town", if you may, is tinier than tiny. Consisting of only 3 hotels/hostels (only 1 of which I would stay at - Aqua Wellness Resort - pictured above), 3 bars/restaurants, & 2 beaches (not including the private beach of the resort). Now .. do yourself the favor & spend the money to stay @ the resort - $125 a night w/ trip advisor coupon. They offer complimentary (I'm all about free stuff!) paddle boarding, snorkeling, kayaking, yoga & breakfast. Plus you're staying in a tree house over looking the jungle & ocean w/ your own personal infinity pool. But enough about the resort, for a dinner out I would venture on up the hillside along the northern side of the main beach (I can't remember the name of the restaurant .. ask a local - it has an amazing sunset view!) & head over to Camino's or Juntio's for a drink. Like I said, it's a small "town" you can't get lost. Fourth & final - Maderas, Nicaragua. So I got sick somewhere along the way, & was ready to hop on a plane & come home until I found this tranquil getaway perched up on the hillside - Maderas Village. It's a must!! 90% of the employees were once travelers.. They stopped here along the way & never left (I totally don't blame them!) Once you arrive you'll realize why this is a surfers destination, you'll also be spending 90% of your time at the beach with the other 90% of travelers. There's not much to do but... If you're looking to treat yourself for a genuinely good massage (which you totally deserve), stop by "Dunia's" at the bottom of the hill from Maderas Village (there's signage). Grab a drink on the beach from Los Tres Hermanos (they're half as expensive as the hut across the way). Head up to Hulakai's for taco Tuesday pool party (a million dollar view). Oh & don't forget to admire the vibrant seashells along the shoreside!
